About Swimology
Swimology offers swim lessons, water safety classes and therapeutic aquatics sessions for children of all abilities. Our gentle, patient approach meets children where they are and works forward to foster success in and out of the pool. We help kids build a happy, healthy, safe, confident relationship with the water.
Sarah Price started Swimology after she noticed a disconnect between existing swim lessons and many of the special kids who need them most. One seed for Swimology was planted years ago when Sarah had to help her older (neurotypical) son rebuild confidence after “dunk ‘em in”-style swim lessons made him terrified of the water. She believes that the necessary foundation for successful swim lessons is establishing trust at the very beginning.
Sarah brings over 20 years of experience and expertise in pediatric occupational therapy to her unique approach to swim lessons. She’s worked one-on-one with hundreds of kids, helping them overcome everything from mild adjustment challenges to rare and debilitating diagnoses. She’s extremely comfortable with and has experience with children on the Autism spectrum, with neuro or sensory issues, Down Syndrome and just about everything else. More importantly, all of these children are extremely comfortable with Sarah. Her patience, flexibility and creativity enable her to connect with any child. Time after time, parents have said that her ability to adapt to their child’s personality helped them make therapeutic progress.
Throughout her career in OT, Sarah found water to be an extremely beneficial tool in therapy. Many kids are drawn to it and motivated by it, in part because it provides so much sensory input and full-body resistance. Water can be both challenging and soothing, which makes it perfect for therapeutic work.
Sarah has loved the water since she was a kid growing up near the coast. She spent many a summer in her late teens and early twenties lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons. While earning her therapy degree, she worked as a nanny and was in the pool at every opportunity with the kids, including, teaching them to swim and helping with swim team. (She spits out her coffee a little when she realizes that those kids are full-grown, successful adults now.) When she’s not teaching kids how to be comfortable and safe in the water, you can find her listening to great music, playing board games, swimming, and hiking with her husband, two sons and labs while also cleaning oak leaves out of her pool in Cedar Park.
